I have been wanting a vintage locker basket for awhile now
but I couldn't bring myself to spend almost $20 for one.
So, I thought why not try and make one.
While cruising around Big Lots this past weekend
I found these 2 canvas covered baskets for $5.
They have a metal frame and the canvas is velcro'd on.
I removed the canvas and measured some hardware cloth I picked up at Goodwill for $1.99.
Doing the 2 larger sides first. Then the bottom. Then the 2 smaller sides.
I think it turned out perfect and only $4.49.
I still have WAY more cloth to do the other basket if I choose
and probably 2 more after that.
What a deal for $6.99 total, huh?

turned out super cute! you are brave...I don't know that I could have cut up the new ones! your end result is great! worth the risk.
Great idea! I love when people think outside the box. Sometimes it happens with me but normally I am a pretty good copycatter.
Very nice. Great job. I think I have that same white urn on my new desk I just posted about.
Stopping by from Shabby Chic Cottage's Transformation Thursday. That is an awesome redo on the locker basket! It looks just like a vintage one.
New follower - off to read some of your other great ideas :)

Oooo. What a great idea!! Looks so great!
Love this idea! I have a question though. Did you trim away all the overlap and just bend the spokes around the metal bars? I don't see any overlap on your edges. It looks perfect!
This is really a great project! You'd never know it wasn't the 'real' thing.
I'm your newest follower! Hope you'll stop by and visit me soon at Shabby, Chic & Charming!
Great, great idea!! Thanks for sharing!
Great basket. I'm loving the basket transformations I've been seeing lately. I think I'll be on the look out for hardware cloth or wire to make my own transformation.
As i read this I said out loud, "That is stinking amazing. I love it." I'm passing on to you the Versatile Blogger Award.

Ooooh, I LOVE this. I didn't like how floppy the plain hardware-cloth baskets were. This is a great solution!! Can you tell I'm excited??
I have those bins (before). ;) They look amazing in wire!! Great price too.
Thanks so much for joining my Weekend Bloggy Reading party. Hope you'll stop by Serenity Now again soon. :)
Wow, how awesome! These turned out fabulous, and such a bargain, too.

Wow, you did a great job on this, Deanna! It looks so much better! I need to find some baskets for a dresser I'm redoing {it's missing two drawers}. I'd love to find something like this for it.
Two thumbs up! I have plenty of those canvas baskets that just don't "go" anymore... now I have to find the wire.
genius!!! Your new basket is fabulous! xoxox
this is brilliant...and something i would not have thought of in a million years of trying...and perfect since i can't bring myself to fork out $20 for a basket either!

Wow! It's so weird when I find out that someone was having the exact same thoughts. I'm stopping on my way home tonight to buy hardware cloth for another project and was thinking about making a basket, too but couldn't figure out the frame. Thanks for the tip! Hope our Big Lots has the baskets!
How creative! Your basket is lovely.

Brillant! What a great idea! Can't wait to go to Big Lots in my area and see if they have any of those bins :0) Blessings, Katy
That is a great idea!! Makes me thing of other things I can make with the hardware cloth.
Just made one of these according to your tutorial. Worked out great. I am trying to figure out how to put a handle of some sort on it.
Did you secure the wire with anything? Or just wrap it around? ?
what a great idea! very inspiring...thanks for sharing!
