$2 Ballard Inspired Pet Canister

A few months ago I pinned on Pinterest this picture
from Tidy Mom
Her project was inspired by Ballard Designs Pet Canisters
which go for $45.00 - $54.00
There is NO way I can afford a metal canister to just hold my
pet's food. I mean I love Vixen but the size I want is $49.
 Ummmm, NO!!!

So, I've been on the look out for the perfect size "popcorn" canister.
Ya know the ones that come out this time of the year and hold
 a small continent of popcorn.
The problem I was finding is the canisters are MUCH smaller than the ones
I use to get as a kid. That was until today.
I was cruising around Goodwill and found this awesome popcorn canister
for $2. That along with some primer and spray paint will make the perfect dupe.

I started by cleaning the inside really well,
I mean my lil' guy's food is going in here.
Then taping off the rims and handles, I wanted to keep their metal accents,
I put a plastic bag inside attached to the tape to keep the spray paint.
After priming, painting and letting it dry really well for about 5 hours
I was ready for the wording.
I played with the fonts in Photoshop.
Printing it out to 11 X 8.5. Then I used a piece of carbon paper to transfer the image.
I outlined each letter with a Sharpie and filled it in with a Elmer's Black Paint Pen.
Once filled with food, it's ready to admire.
SOOO much better.
Now, instead of it residing in the garage, it can be in the kitchen
and all for the low low price of $9 : )

I am sooo going to copy this idea - I've been complaining forever that our big huge tall thingie that holds Casper's food is difficult for me to lean waaay down into to get the dregs. I wanted a canister that can sit on the bench next to the feeding station. My teen daughter came home last week with one of those popcorn thingies she found somewhere (probably the dump, I think we're diva wannabes). And I am going to make it a BD knockoff dog food container. Thanks for sharing, I saw your link at Serenity Now.

I saw a version like this at Marshalls. It was $20 there but still more than I wanted to spend on my dogs food as well. I love this idea & will have to try it myself. Thanks for sharing!

Hi there-found you thru Stuff & Nonsense. This is a great idea! I've been eyeing dog & cat food tins like these, but not willing to part with the funds for them! Will have to try this! Thanks for sharing!
