When it Rains it Pours

Ya know that saying, when it rains it pours?

Whelp, right now it's storming at my house.

Last night, while doing her laundry, my oldest daughter broke the latch on our
front loader washing machine. So now the door won't lock and if it doesn't lock it doesn't work.

I was VERY lucky (and I'm saying that BEFORE it's fixed) this morning that I found a repair guy that can fix it and has the parts in stock. He seems reasonable price-wise too.

Today however, while cooking dinner I removed a pot from the
cabinet next to our stove and must have hit the "sweet" spot because this happened ...

Yup, ALL the glass ... on my floor !!!

I wanna run away ....

My Rustic (& Cheap) Chalkboard

YAY it's Friday !!!!

Junkin' tomorrow but today I thought since I was on babysitting duty that I would knock out a VERY simple and CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP project.

Ya see, I painted our hallway last week (a color I made up by mixing 3 oops colors together) and
there was this wall space that needed a lil' something.

I remembered that I had a chalkboard I had made out of MDF
(just sprayed with chalkboard paint)
in our garage (I love this saying) as well as some pallet wood that I had cut awhile ago when
I made my pallet shelf that you can see here

This Weekend's Junkin' Finds #15

Howdy peeps ... How was your weekend?

It just seems to come and go so quickly
(makes me think of Dorthy ... "People come and go so quickly around here")

The weather here has been mid August summer hot. If you live in the central - south
part of Florida (and probably Texas) you know exactly just how hot that is. I'm scared to see what this summer will have in store for us.

I was able to find some cool goodies.
Not many but a few along with some plants, which I'll also show ya.

Drip - Less Paint

G' Morning Everybody : )

I've been painting my bedroom and realized
I have a great tip that you guys may not have thought about.
I learned this by Ms. Martha (Stewart) about 10 years ago
and have used it every time I paint.

All ya need is a hammer, an awe (or a long thick nail) and of course your paint.
Doesn't matter the size paint can (it won't work on a sample size, lol).

Just puncture along the rim of the paint can (the canal part)

I usually do about 8 of em'. Again it depends on the paint can size

There ya go ... no more drips down the side of your can : )

Now, I know some of you guys are saying to yourselves,
"Why didn't I think of that?"
: )

This Weekend's Junkin' Finds #14

HEY YOU GUYS !!!!!
: )

How's your week coming along?

I wanted to share with you guys some of the goodies I found this weekend
AND what I got for Mother's Day

 Ready?
Really ready?
Really really ready?
Ok, let's go ...
(sorry for taking this on a black background ... bad blogger)

First I picked up this vintage croquet set for $5

A platter and a small dish for $1 a piece

A beautiful blue vintage Pyrex casserole dish with a lid for $2

This cool clock (the seller said worked but doesn't) for $2. I've already taken it apart to replace the battery part to see if I can get it to work.

A brand new, full box, of unsanded grout for $1.49. Bought to make chalk paint

An awesome vintage wooden pulley for $3

A free piece of wood which use to be a lid to a box. Not sure if I wanna repaint over it of
leave it as is. Any thought? I kinda like it as it is.

2 Dundee Marmalade jars $3 for both and 4 vintage wood steam casters for $5

Now, my pride and joy,
my Mother's Day gift ...

It's an antique shoe rack that was used in shoe manufacturing factories from the late 1800's through to the 1950's. The wheels and open shelving enabled the workers access to the rack from both sides as it was moved about the factory floor.
I have wanted one for SO long.

I LOVE it !!!!

 So, how was your weekend?

Before I was a Mom

Before I was a Mom I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom
I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom I had never been puked on.
Pooped on. Spit on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.....
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.
Before I was a Mom
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

And before I was a Grandma
I didn't know that all those "Mom" feelings more than doubled!

This Weekend's Junkin' Finds #13

This week, instead of showing you what I found while junkin last weekend all at one time,
I thought I would try something different and show you what I bought and how I'm using it.
Ready?

I found this basket for $.25.

Another basket for $.50

The Versatile Blogger Award

I was going threw my emails this morning and found an email from
sent to me on April 27th.
If you follow my blog, you know that my posts have been a lil slow. My daughter headed back to work after her maternity leave so I've been babysitting a lil' more to help her out.
Anywhoo, I was surprised to learn that I was awarded with this award

What an honor. I never know if what I write is worth reading because sometimes I write to hear myself speak, what a minute, that didn't sound right. It almost sounded like my mom.
Cue flashback of my teenage years, lol.

Now I know that I have to pass this on to 15 other bloggers but I gotta tell ya,
I follow SOOOOO many blogs so I thought I would tell ya about a few of my favorites and pass The Versatile Blogger award onto them.
Some of them you probably know, hopefully I can introduce you to em' if ya didn't.

First off there Northern Cottage whom I've been following for a few years now.
Not only is her work beautiful but she herself is one sweet person.

Second is Salvage Dior. Kate, whom I loving call Ms. Kate is such an amazing lady.
Her eye for detail is incredible. Her inner strength is inspiring and her love for her family is wonderful.

Lastly is My Repurposed Life. I feel very honored to have met Gail (though not in person). I believe we were separated at birth. She has such a talented to be able to see something and turn it into something else. She has helped me on so many projects and she's always in my corner cheering me on.

Now, I must share 7 things about me ....

Hmmm, I find this might be that hardest since I find myself kinda boring, lol.

1. I'm secretly married to George Clooney. Ok, in MY mind I've been married to him (Dave Matthews, Tyler Florence & Luke Bryan) for about 10 years, lol.

2. I don't think I have a great smile so I don't smile too much. I do what my Kricket calls
"The Fishy" smile where I suck in my cheeks. Weird I know : )

3. I LOVE baseball. Let me re-phrase that, I LOVE the NY Yankees.
Although I'm from Cincy Ohio and I've lived in Sarasota, Florida for 32 years, I'm a DIE-HARD
Yankee fan. I LOVE to talk baseball.

4. I believe in ghosts, gnomes and fairies.

5. I believe what goes around comes around ... karma is a b*****.

6. I use to weigh 268 pounds. A size 24 and about 4 years ago I went on a life change and lost 112 pounds in 10 months. After my dad died 3 years ago I gained about 35 pounds which I struggle with. I now follow the Paleo diet and have dropped 16 pounds. I started running and hope to do a 5K color run in December.

ONE MORE, YAY ...

7. I LOVE being a grandma. Didn't think I would but I do ; )

There ya go. Probably more than ya wanted to know but I did it!

Now, because Mother's Day is just a few days from now and I can't go without sharing a pic of my Lil Leo ...

My lovely Mom and Leo

Thank you again for awarding me with this award.

See ya all soon ....

Gotta go make a bottle : )

My First Etsy Purchase

Howdy guys ...

How's your week coming along?

I am so excited to share with you something that arrived today.

Ya see, I've been "shopping" on Etsy for about two years but I've never bought anything until
I stumbled on Selina Vaughan's shop.
I KNEW I just HAD to have one of her bags,
actually I would have love about 5 of em (her jewelry is amazing as well - my next purchase).
I waited like a kid at Christmas for it to come. Checking on usps.com everyday tracking it's journey
from California to Florida.

Wanna see what I got?

I love a personalized note from a buyer. The card is some of her amazing items in her shop.

The bag came in a duster bag. If you're not familiar with a duster bag, it's what you store
your higher quality bags in when not in use.

Don't cha' LOVE it? It's made from a 1940-1950's seed bag.
With leather handles. I LOVE that when I took it out of the duster bag there was that
great smell of leather ... like a fine pair of shoes.

Selina attached a beautiful leather tag. Had to save it, it's so pretty.

I LOVE the pockets inside. There's 2 zipped pockets (which make it's one pocket)
and 2 on the other side. Perfect for my iPhone.
It's lined in denim and VERY well made.

Ahhhhhhh, LOVE !!!! : )

Here's what I'm looking at for my next purchase ...

Some of the other bags in her shop ...

Amazing right?

If you're looking for really beautiful, one of a kind, vintage inspired jewelry or bags
check out Selina's  shop ~

Let her know I sent ya : )

Just a Day at the Beach

Howdy guys ...

I wanted to show you something that my 9yr old and I have been working on all week.

Ya see, she's in 4th grade and her class has been studying Florida.

We just finished a HUGE scrapbook all about Florida.
State and local government, authors from Florida, the population ... you get the idea.

Well, Monday she came home with a piece of paper saying that she had
to pick a specific place, person, plant, so on and so on, from Florida
and she had to do either a board, mobile, diorama or a written paper on the topic.

We racked our brain. The last time she had to do anything like that she was
studying Switzerland and we did a mobile so this time she wanted to do something different.

We decided to do a diorama on Siesta Beach, which has been voted one
of the top 5 most beautiful beaches in the world.
If ya never been here, you should visit. It's PURDY !!!!

Luckily, The Hubby had just bought a new pair of tennies so we used the box.

We cut one of the long sides and then painted light blue on the sides and dark blue
on the bottom. Then we coated the front half of the bottom with Elmer's glue and
applied actual sand from Siesta Beach. We built up some sand with the glue and sand.
Then we printed out some pictures I took recently when Kricket and I went to Siesta cut them out and
glued them onto some of the cardboard we had cut from the box leaving some of the cardboard on the bottom to bend back so that we could hot glue it to the box. We glued some cotton for clouds and some sea gulls ...

Here's a joke for ya (one of Kricket's favorite)
Ya know why they're called sea gulls? Cuz if they flew over the bay the would be called bagels.
BWAHAHAHAHA !!!!!

and some small shells and it's finished. It looks soooo real.

Oh, she is SO getting an "A" and it was fun to do.

Made her remember the day we spent at the beach : )
